Sir Ernest Shackelton

Sir Ernest Shackleton was the first person to reach . To complete this amazing achievement Shackleton had to travel 180km through the South Pole on foot! Shackleton reached the South Pole in January 1909.

—After completing this amazing achieve Shackleton decided to try and cross Antarctica sea to sea via the South Pole. Disaster struck when his ship, the Endurance, became trapped in ice. Shackleton made the brave decision to abandon the ship and start the journey across the continent. Shackleton and his team went through many hardships through his journey but incredibly their whole team suffered no fatalities.
